VAAEA Professional Improvement Awards and Recognition ProgramsAll current VAAEA members are eligible for participation in the numerous awards and recognitions programs conducted by the National Association. Many of the professional improvement awards are in the form of special pre-conference trips and seminars, conducted in conjunction with the NACAA Annual Meetings and Professional Improvement Conference. Other awards include the Annual C0mmunications Awards Program, which recognizes agents for excellence in several communications categories, such as newsletters, fact sheets and program publicity pieces. The most prestigious awards offered by VAAEA / NACAA are the Achievement Awards, Distinguished Service Awards, and the Wall of Fame (Virginia only). Below you will find a listing of the various professional improvement awards and recognition programs available. Most awards are linked to a specific National and / or State Committee. VAAEA Wall of FameThe VAAEA Wall of Fame was created in 1999 to recognize Virginia Cooperative Extension professionals for "outstanding contributions to Virginia agriculture and meritorious service to Virginia Cooperative Extension." Each year one retiree and one current employee are recognized. Nominations are taken from the current VAAEA membership and winners are selected by an appointed committee. Communications AwardsThe purpose of the NACAA Communications Awards program is "To recognize NACAA members who excel in communicating programs and ideas to their clientele." Entries are received and judged by the Virginia Communications Committee and State winners are selected. All entries are then submitted to the regional chairs for consideration. Agents are responsible for submitting their own materials for competition. Winners are selected at State, Regional and National levels. National finalists receive a cash award, and are expected to attend the National AM-PIC to attend the awards luncheon. Other National AwardsThere are other numerous awards available through the NACAA awards program. Most are closely tied with the Annual Meetings and Professional Improvement Conference, and consist of special workshops, seminars, opportunities to present and poster sessions. Search for ExcellenceThe purpose of the search for excellence is to recognize an NACAA member who has developed and carried out an outstanding extension educational program in specific categories. State, regional and national award winners receive cash awards. National award winners are expected to attend the AM-PIC and in most categories will have an opportunity to present their winning program during a workshop.

Pre-Conference Workshops & ToursSeveral pre-conference workshops and tours are held each year in conjunction with the Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference. The specific focus and topic areas of the individual tours and workshops vary from year to year. Interested members must apply to participate in these workshops. All expenses are usually paid by the sponsoring entity. Application and selection criteria vary by workshop / tour. The state committee chair for each available opportunity is contacted by the regional chairs to solicit applications.

Public Relations in Daily Efforts (PRIDE) AwardThe purpose of the PRIDE Program award is to recognize NACAA members or team of members for outstanding use of Public Relations in Daily Efforts that improve the understanding of agriculture in their communities. State winners and national finalists receive a cash award. National winners must be present at the recognition breakfast at the AM-PIC to receive their awards. Responsible Committee: Program Recognition Council - Public Relations CommitteeLink to complete rules and forms (also available in the annual Awards edition of The County Agent) NACAA Service to American/World Agriculture AwardThe purpose of this award is to recognize a U.S. citizen who has made a major contribution to American/World Agriculture and is so recognized by peers and the general public. Recipient is expected to attend the Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference to accept the award, and will receive appropriate expenses to attend the annual meeting. Nominees for this annual award must be a resident of the NACAA district hosting the annual meeting in that year. (The Southern Region hosts the NACAA AM-PIC in 2004) Entries must be approved by the State Extension Director and the State Association President. Link to complete rules and forms (also available in the annual Awards edition of The County Agent) Pinnacle Award for Outstanding Humanitarian ServiceThe purpose of the NACAA Pinnacle Award for Outstanding Humanitarian service is to recognize an active NACAA member who has distinguished him/herself as an outstanding humanitarian in the area(s) in which they have lived and served, and who delivers an effective Agricultural extension educational program. This award is presented annually to one person. Competition for this award will be nation wide. Regional directors will forward one nominee from their region for the NACAA Board to consider. A cash award of up to is $5000 is contingent upon donor/sponsor funding. The winner must register for the NACAA Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference and attend the designated ceremony to receive their award. Each state association has the responsibility for nominating one member from their state association for this award. Link to complete rules and forms (also available in the annual Awards edition of The County Agent) Poster Session at Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement ConferenceThe purpose of this award is to showcase NACAA members work by giving them the opportunity to present posters at the Annual Meeting/Professional Improvement Conference. This award program has two categories to recognize NACAA members. The first category gives individuals an opportunity to present a poster on applied research they have conducted. The other category is designed to give members and opportunity to present a poster on new or different educational methods or technologies he or she has used. It is also an opportunity to discuss how an identified educational need in the community was addressed and what the observed results were.
